RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova congratulates George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science student Sorina Munteanu on receiving the Community PRIDE Scholarship.

The Community PRIDE Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior living in Rancho Cordova who demonstrates pride in our community, volunteers and works hard to succeed. The $500 scholarship was developed and is funded annually by city employees through fundraising efforts and donations.

Sorina received the scholarship not only due to her academic achievements, but also for her commitment to giving back to her community through extraordinary acts of kindness.

“I’ve always felt most happy when I was able to serve others because that’s where I receive the most joy,” said Sorina. “My mother really pushed that what you have is really not as important as what you can do for others because doing that improves your own life as well.”

Sorina will be graduating this month with plans to attend UC Merced to pursue bio engineering. “I really want to be able to make bio-technology that is affordable to those who need it. Just a way that I can help others,” she said.

The City of Rancho Cordova and its staff are extremely proud of Sorina, and we are excited to see her continue to make an impact in her community as she heads off to college.

“When we see our young people going above and beyond and getting involved in our community, it serves as a reminder that those who are often referred to as ‘the future’ are making a difference right now,” said City of Rancho Cordova City Manager, Cyrus Abhar. “It is also a labor of love from our City employees, who got together to raise money to support our youth in their pursuit of higher education, so they can continue to work to achieve their dreams.”

The Community PRIDE Scholarship has supported the city’s high school students for the past ten years and applications will open again in 2019 as the City of Rancho Cordova and its employees continue their efforts in providing financial assistance to exemplary students.
