RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova is making great progress toward its goal of developing a civic amenity for our community. Recently, city staff updated the City Council on the status of the Civic Center project, now known as the Mills Station District project.

As you might recall, the City Council has held four public work sessions with residents, businesses and interested parties to refine the vision for the project, select a location, and review various site layouts. The site selected for the project is the Mills Station Property, which is a city-owned 10-acre parcel located on Folsom Blvd. adjacent to Folsom Lake College/Rancho Cordova Center and across the street from the Mills Station Arts & Culture Center (The MACC). The City Council, after much public input and discussion, has prioritized the potential uses for this project to a space for performing/visual arts, a recreational and housing space, a space to accommodate meetings, and an outdoor area for community gatherings.

With the location and a more focused vision for the project determined, the city next turned to the task of seeking a public-private partnership to develop the project. In July 2019, the city issued an Offering Memorandum (OM) to seek development partners and, in late September, received eight letters of interest from teams made up of local, statewide and national organizations. Now, city staff will convene an evaluation committee with representatives from numerous local and regional organizations to review the letters of interest and narrow the pool of potential development partners to three. The three will be asked to present at a December 2019 or January 2020 City Council meeting or work session. Based on the presentations, these potential development partners may be asked to provide additional information to help the evaluation committee select the development partner to work with the city and bring this project to life.

We invite you to attend the December 2019 or January 2020 City Council meeting or work session to learn more about the development partners and their proposed project ideas. Stay tuned to the city’s social media channels and our e-newsletters for a specific date.
