Women's Tennis
The FLC women’s tennis team took care of business Thursday afternoon as they defeated Santa Rosa 6-3 in a Big 8 Conference playoff match at the FLC Tennis Complex, earning the Falcons a trip to American River College next week with the Big 8 title on the line. Freshmen Abriana Rowe and Erin Cline were the dual winners for the Falcons, winning in both singles and doubles. Rowe combined with teammate Ella Zagorenko to defeat Santa Rosa’s pesky #1 doubles pair, 9-7, while Cline teamed with sophomore Arielle Frank at #2 doubles to win 8-5. The Falcons now advance to the Big 8 championship match next week against American River, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday afternoon (weather permitting) at ARC.

Women’s Softball
The Sierra College Wolverines scored early and often in the opening game of their doubleheader at Falcon Diamond on Saturday, eventually winning game one 13-4 in five innings. Brieana Maddux (first base) had three hits and three RBI to lead the Falcons’ offense, while sophomore Abbie Strickland and freshman McKenna Rickles both collected two hits apiece.

Men’s Baseball
After playing eight innings in 4+ hours at Falcon Field on Thursday night (the game was suspended due to 11:00 pm curfew), the FLC and Modesto baseball teams resumed play in the top of the ninth inning in Modesto on Saturday with the Falcons leading 17-7. The two teams combined for 22 walks, eight hit batters, and used 11 pitchers, which explains why they had only managed to play eight innings in over four hours on Thursday night. Freshman Aidan Malm hit his second home run of the season as the Falcons improved to 11-15 overall and 3-8 in the Big 8 Conference.

The Falcons and Pirates returned to the field twenty minutes later for their scheduled game, and the Falcons began just as they had the previous two games as they scored five first-inning runs. In the three-game series with Modesto, FLC scored 19 first-inning runs! However, this time their lead didn’t last as Modesto tallied eight runs in the fourth inning to take their first lead of the three-game series, 8-7. The Falcon bullpen took over from there, allowing just one run over the next eight innings. After Mitchell Hebner scored the tying run in the eighth inning, the game went into extras tied 10-10. The Falcons scored three in the 12th on RBI singles by Jack Rotteveel (his 5th hit of the game) and Aidan Malm, then exhaled when Josh Winkler closed out the win after loading the bases on two hits and a walk. In the 3-game sweep, the Falcons’ cumulative numbers were staggering: 43 runs scored on 43 hits, 31 walks, and 39 runners left on base. Just as alarming, the Falcon pitchers allowed 25 runs on 33 hits and issued 17 walks.
