At the start of last week, the Cordova High School baseball team was in the thick of the race to grab one of the Sierra Valley Conference’s three playoff spots.

The Lancers had won three of their last five games. That included wins over defending SVC champion El Dorado, Union Mine and Galt.

But on Tuesday, the Lancers lost a 13-2 game to Liberty Ranch on the Hawks’ field in Galt. Cordova (5-7 in the SVC, 6-11-1 overall) has lost its last two conference games.

Tuesday’s loss now puts Cordova in fourth place, one game back behind Liberty Ranch and Rosemont, which are tied for third place at 6-6 each. Union Mine sits in first place while El Dorado is in second, just one game behind.

Galt 5, Cordova 0

In an April 21st home game, the Lancers had only three hits; one each from Austin Smith, Nick Ravareau and Jeremy Buck.

“Plain and simple – they beat us,” said Cordova head coach Doug Hughes. “Galt got the timely hits when they needed them.”

The Warriors had 10 hits in the game. They scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and the final two in their last at-bat.

Yesterday, Thursday, Cordova continued SVC action with the third and final meeting at Liberty Ranch. Next Tuesday, May 3rd, the Lancers host Rosemont. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
