Logan Appino was the lone Cordova High School baseball player who was named to the all-Sierra Valley Conference team this season.

In 21 games this season, Appino, a junior catcher, had a .448 batting average. Some of his hits were five doubles. He also scored 18 times, seven stolen bases and six RBIs.

“Logan was another young man who welcomed me from the first day I got there,” said Cordova head coach Doug Hughes, who completed his first season in running the program. “He is just a terrific kid. He is a very quiet and leads by example. He works extremely hard every single day.”

Appino also played centerfield when he wasn’t behind the plate.

“We lost our centerfielder to injury and he volunteered to play center,” Hughes said. “We could play Logan anywhere and not worry about that position. I look forward to having Logan back for his senior year.”

On defense, Appino had a .959 fielding percentage. He also pitched in three games this season, starting in two of those games. He allowed only 25 hits and struck out 13 batters.

The quad champions of the SVC – Union Mine, Liberty Ranch, El Dorado and Rosemont – dominated the all-SVC honors list.
