On Monday, the Cordova High School volleyball team started its 2016 season.

The Lady Lancers played at Casa Roble as part of the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Foundation match. In the unofficial contest, Cordova posted a 3-1 win over the host Rams; the final scores were 25-22, 26-24, 24-26, 29-27.

Earlier this week, Cordova played at Mira Loma in the first official match of the season. Yesterday, Thursday, the Lancers hosted Valley of Sacramento, which was also a non-league contest.

Next week, the Lancers continue their pre-season schedule. On Wednesday, Cordova plays at West Campus. Then next Friday, Sept. 9, another home contest for the Lancers, when Sacramento pays a visit to Lancer Gym.

The Lady Lancers continue their non-league schedule in upcoming weeks before the start of Sierra Valley Conference action on Sept. 22, when Cordova host Rosemont. That first round match will be followed by playing Galt, Union Mine, El Dorado and Liberty Ranch. The second round starts in early October.

Shavonna Andrews returns for her third season as the Cordova varsity volleyball head coach. She has a mixture of returning and new players on this year’s squad, along with a huge turnout for the Lady Lancers’ junior varsity and freshman squads.
