In its first two Sierra Valley Conference matches, the Cordova High School volleyball team have some come out winners.
Hosting Galt on Tuesday, the Lady Lancers went five games, but came out with a 3-2 win at Warrior Gym; the final scores were 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 15-10.
The win improves Cordova to 2-0 in SVC action and 6-3 overall.
“We were able to pick it up in the second set,” said Cordova head coach Shavonna Andrew of the Lancers’ second game against the Warriors. “We struggled with our serve-receive (in the third set).”
The teams traded wins until the final set. Cordova trailed 10-5, but pulled off the come-from-behind win that was led by Shaieve Clore, who guided the Lancers’ offense behind the line in serving.
“She was able to serve us to victory while the team played great defense and played together,” said Andrews of Clore.
Cordova 3, Rosemont 1
In the SVC opener at Lancer Gym on Sept. 22nd, the Lancers won in four games; 25-10, 25-27, 25-22, 28-26.
“The game against Rosemont was good,” Andrews said. “The girls played tough and most of all played as a team.”
Leading the way for Cordova was the serving from Lexi Samaoya, setting from Adrienne Hammond and kills from Gianna Bell.
