The Cordova Recreation and Park District and Stantec Architecture recently received an Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects California Sierra Chapter for Hillside Park.

Hillside is an 8-acre neighborhood park located in the Sunridge/North Douglas area in Rancho Cordova. The park features playgrounds, a play field, a basketball half-court, covered picnic areas and a “play hill” with concrete and steel tube waterfall slides, a rope ladder and other play structures. Hillside park also includes water-conserving no mow grass and drought-tolerant native plants.

The park site offered unique design challenges including steep slopes and an adjacent detention basin. CRPD staff and Stantec worked together to arrive at a solution that worked with the existing landscape. Hillside is the 36th park in the District and opened in June 2016.
