A newly renovated sheet metal and HVAC training center opened at Mather Field on May 31, 2017, marking a growing demand for skilled personnel in the Sacramento region’s building trades and sheet metal industries.

Over $3 million in investments went into renovating the Northern California Valley Sheet Metal, Heating and Air Conditioning Training Center, which will provide free college-level training to more than 100 men and women on an annual basis.

“This new facility is almost twice the size of the old training center and will allow for expansion of the program for years to come,” said Dennis Canevari, Assistant Business Manager for the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union No. 104.

The state-of-the-art facility features an HVAC Service Lab, sheet metal fabrication area and lab and welding equipment, and offers a variety of specialized courses for prospective tradespeople.

“We stand ready to supply the Sacramento area contractors with a skilled labor pool,” said Canevari.

The apprenticeship program is the only State-certified program of its kind in the Sacramento area and will educate Union craftsmen in the sheet metal industry across 23 northern California valley counties.
