Cordova Boys, Girls Basketball Prepare for SVC Action

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – Now the fun begins for the Cordova High School boys basketball team.

On Tuesday night, the Lancers wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 62-54 win over Rio Americano at Lancer Gym.

Today, Friday, Cordova (7-8) begins Sierra Valley Conference action at Rosemont in their rivalry game. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Then Cordova plays its next road game at El Dorado next Tuesday. A week from today, Friday, the Lancers will play their first conference home game of the season, entertaining Galt. Both games are scheduled to tip-off also at 7 p.m.

Bella Vista 58, Cordova 55

In a non-conference road game on Jan. 3rd, Cordova outscored Bella Vista 22-15. But the Broncos galloped to a 15-11 lead in the first quarter, and held a 30-21 advantage at halftime.

“We held on,” said Cordova head coach Fletcher Johnson.

Leading scorers for the Lancers was point guard Joe Danielyan with 26 points. He was one of three Cordova players who scored in double figures; shooting guard Sam Danielyan followed with 18 points and forward Jose Hernandez with 10. Tyreke Tate finished with four points, and Raymond Fite three.

On Jan. 5th on the road, the Lady Lancers lost a tough game to Woodland 47-44.

After trailing 13-7 in the first quarter, Cordova (3-14) outscored the Wolves in the second and third quarters, 19-14 and 14-9 respectively. But Woodland rallied in the final quarter, 11-4, to produce the victory.

Hosting the Cardinals on Jan. 4th, the Lady Lancers picked up their third win of the season at Lancer Gym.

Today, Friday, Cordova will also open SVC action at home against Rosemont in their rivalry game. Tip-off is also scheduled for 7 p.m.

Next Wednesday, Cordova plays its second consecutive home game, as El Dorado pays a visit. A week from today, Friday, the Lady Lancers hit the road to play at Galt. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Cordova boys soccer

The Lancers are off to a 4-3 start this season.

In a non-league road game played on Jan. 4th, Foothill shutout the Lancers 3-0.

Prior to that game, Cordova lost to Placer, 2-0, at Lancer Stadium.

Before 2017 ended, the Lancers ended the year with a 5-1 win over San Juan on Dec. 15th. Cordova scored two goals in the first half.

Yesterday, Thursday, Cordova also opened SVC action, as it hosted Rosemont. The Lancers play at defending conference champion Galt next Monday, at Walker Park. Cordova plays its next home game Thursday, Jan. 18th against Union Mine at Lancer Stadium. Game time for both games is 6 p.m.
