RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The 2018 TRAL Track and Field League Finals took place at Capital Christian High School last week. The middle school athletes competed hard, some even putting forth record setting performances.

W.E. Mitchell Middle School Recap: 6th grade girls Morgan Sebastien and Sierra Adair both took 1st place in the shot put and long jump, respectively.

6th grade boys Kevin Godinez and Brandon Wesley took 1st place in the shot put and high jump, respectively.

7th grade girl, Annabelle Bottimore, took two league champion 1st place medals in the 200 meter and in the long jump, with Kaeli Savorn also placing 1st in the shot put.

Our lone 7th grade boy as league champion was Erik Fillion, who won the 65 meter hurdle race.

Our 8th graders compose most of our 81 team members, with 52 members.  There were many of them in the winner’s circle.

Four different 8th grade girls earned 1st place medals at the meet.  Nicole Reznikova won the 200 meter, Tori Amador-Sanchez won the long jump, Alexis Cornish won the shot put and Ilona Minlikayev won the high jump.

Our 8th grade boys won both relays and five individual events.  The 4 x 100 relay team of Aaron Fernandez, Dominic Stephens, Ashton Ready and Marlon Schulze won 1st place with a time of 50.32.  The 4 x 400 relay team of Marlon Schulze, Charles Porter, Wyatt Stephenson and Ashton Ready not only took home first place, but set a school and meet record time of 4:00.89.

As for individual performances by Charles Porter and Marlon Schulze, Charles won 1st place in the mile with a time of 5:38 and also won the 800 meter with a time of 2:21.47. Marlon took 1st place in the 100 meter with a time of 12.35 and also the 200 meter, with a time of 25.56.

Worth mentioning was the incredible 1600 meter performance by Capital Christian’s 7th grader, Jack Hendrick, who posted a remarkable time of 5:09.9 minutes.
