RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - On October 30th, RCPD and 100 kindergarteners celebrated detection K9 Zoe's third birthday at Riverview STEM Academy!

K9 Zoe is a member of the Youth Services Unit that supports Rancho Cordova schools. She is partnered with a School Resource Officer to regularly visit local schools to build relationships with our students. She is also trained to identify narcotics and weapons to help keep our students and schools even safer.

The kindergarteners wore birthday hats as they sang K9 Zoe happy birthday, enjoyed birthday cake, petted K9 Zoe, and played with dog-themed stickers. K9 Zoe was decked out in a birthday bandana and had fun celebrating with all the students.

Riverview STEM Academy was chosen to host the party through a coloring contest. RCPD delivered K9 Zoe coloring sheets to our elementary schools and asked each school to encourage as many kindergarten students as possible to color in the sheet. RCPD selected one coloring sheet at random, which was drawn by kindergartener Pranav at Riverview STEM Academy.

The detection K9 program is funded by a grant from the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement Fund. The Community Enhancement Fund provides an additional $1.4 million in funding to the $22 million+ annual police budget during the 2019/2020 fiscal year.
