ANGELS CAMP, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lancers Cross Country team saw their season come to a close this past Saturday, November 9, at the CIF Sac Joaquin Subsection Meet at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp, CA.

The Lancers, who have enjoyed a resurgence in numbers this season under head coach Josh Gruver, failed to qualify any runners for the CIF Sac Joaquin Section Championship meet being held this Saturday at the Willow Hill Reservoir in Folsom, CA.

Cordova, participating in Division II competition this season for the first time in nine years, certainly lived up to the expectations set by their coach.

"They definitely lived up to my expectations," Gruver said. "Our main goal was to really build up the program this season, get 40-45 kids out, and we did. So, it was really positive in that way because we were able to build a foundation. Ever since I started coaching here, it's been about restoring the team at Cordova to what it used to be. I'm extremely proud."

At the Subsection meet, four runners set personal records which goes to show the improvement the team has made despite not qualifying anyone for the Section Championships. On the girls' side, senior Temara Fletcher and freshman Cassandra Lane bested their own personal times in the 3 mile and 2 mile, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman Max Mott and sophomore Elliot Fry set personal bests in the 2 mile event.

Overall, Gruver obviously wishes he had kids competing this weekend, but he is already excited and looking forward to next fall as he and his staff continue to build the program with a good group of young talent figuring to return.

"We're moving forward and really excited to see what the future holds for the program," Gruver said. "I'm already thinking about next year and the level in which we're going to come back. We're going to continue to make a name for ourselves."
