Cordova High School band and football parents and kids gather to talk about the upcoming mattress fundraiser at the main gym on February 29.

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The second ever Cordova High School mattress fundraiser will benefit football this year as well as band.  It will be from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, February 29, in the Main Gym at Cordova High School, 2239 Chase Dr., Rancho Cordova.

Kevin Sims, Cordova High School band and orchestra director, said he heard about this program years ago.  The band tried it out.  “It was really surprising how easy it was on our end to run the fundraiser,” Sims said.

Heather Ford, franchise owner for this region’s Custom Fundraising Solutions, said that at any point in time 10 out of every 100 people need a mattress.  “Our prices are up to 30-50% lower than most mattress retail stores,” Ford said.  “We don’t have the overhead a store would have, we don’t pay for commercial advertising. We are like a literal mobile mattress store... The beds are ordered brand new, just like it would be in a store.  They are whatever size you want.”  Well-known brands, 25 to 30 beds, and accessories will be there for customers to try out.  From 30-50% of the proceeds of sales will directly benefit the school programs.  Delivery is provided within about a 50 mile radius, and old mattresses will be removed.  Financing is available.

“We’re hoping to use the money to supplement our program needs,” Sims said.  “Like kids that need strings or reeds, or sticks, or instruments that they can’t provide.  The football coach, Jason Bumbaca, is using it to buy new uniforms for the kids.”
