RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to announce the winners of the 2020 Pride Scholarships, Atziry Chavez and Matthew Hontz II, both graduating seniors from Cordova High School (CHS). The Pride Scholarship program is funded by employees of the City of Rancho Cordova and awards $500 to graduating seniors for demonstrating community pride.
“I strive to be helpful to all those around me, which is how I would describe the vast majority of the people in this diverse city,” Atziry said when describing Rancho Cordova.
In addition to being on the CHS wrestling team, she was also Miss Rancho Cordova in 2019 and actively volunteers with local community organizations. She also helped her wrestling team purchase new uniforms through a Community Enhancement Fund grant from the City of Rancho Cordova. After graduation, Atziry plans to attend the University of California, Davis.
Matthew was the grade-level Class President throughout his four years at CHS and is a volunteer for the Rancho Cordova Food Locker.
“Encouraging others to take part and give back to the community they have resided in, has become essential for my educational goals,” said Matthew.
After graduation, Matthew hopes to continue to be a student leader at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Congratulations, Atziry and Matthew!
