RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Rancho Cordova Arts non-profit group raised money to buy art supplies for local Rancho Cordova teachers to help with the continuing decline of arts funding in schools. Teachers are working harder with less as years press on. Both students and teachers had quite a rough two years dealing with covid and adapting to online teaching and learning. They reinvent how they learn together over Zoom and Google Classrooms. Much of the fun aspects of school like music, art, P.E., drama, and dance have been absent for students. But unlike PE which is mandatory, the arts are not mandatory. For many these are the activities that keep kids going to school, and where they learn so many different things (complex problem-solving skills, seeing vs. looking, math, and verbal skills).

Every year the Rancho Cordova Arts group has a 6x6 fundraiser for the non-profit - Micro Masterpieces. Last year the organizations board devoted $3K of those proceeds (over half) to buy supplies for teachers who were in need to give back to the community. The other $1K came from donations during the Student Show at the MACC. Each year the MACC (Mills Station Arts & Culture Center) hosts a student show for Rancho Cordova School kids K-12 in April during Arts Advocacy Month, this year that Exhibit is April 7-23.
