Knights Beat Lancers in Dominant Home Opener

RIO LINDA, CA (MPG) - For the third consecutive week to begin the 2022 season, the Cordova High School varsity football team allowed more than 40 points to its opponent in a lopsided loss.
Rio Linda (2-1) was the beneficiary this week as the Knights opened their home schedule with a dominant 48-7 victory over the Lancers (0-3). Rio Linda has now won two games in a row following a gritty 12-6 win at Kennedy the previous week. Cordova has now been outscored 137-21 through three games under first-year interim head coach Kyle Williams.
The Knights began Friday’s game with a strong first quarter, outscoring the Lancers 14-0. The second period was encouraging for Cordova, as both teams scored one touchdown each. With 13 points in the third quarter and 14 in the final period, Rio Linda put the game away in the second half scoring 27 unanswered points. The Knights defeated the Lancers 48-7.
Statistics for both teams was unavailable as of press time. Rio Linda will now have a bye week before taking on Foothill (1-1) on September 16.
The Cordova game on Friday night against Rosemont Wolverines has been canceled due to the heavy smoke in the region's air from ongoing fires .
