RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Rancho Cordova City Council Members Linda Budge and David M. Sander, Ph.D. assumed the roles of mayor and vice mayor, respectively, at the December 19, 2022 Rancho Cordova City Council meeting, after a unanimous vote by their Council Member colleagues.

Incoming Mayor Budge was sworn in by longtime friend and colleague Supervisor Don Nottoli, who will retire this month as Sacramento County Supervisor after serving District 5 since 1994.

Supervisor Nottoli had sworn in Mayor Budge as a newly elected City Council Member nearly 20 years ago at the city’s inaugural City Council meeting. He thanked her for her leadership and dedication to the city and its people.

“Good things have continued to happen here and obviously folks have returned you to office on several occasions,” Supervisor Nottoli said. “I congratulate you and thank you for allowing me to do the duties here this evening.”

Incoming Vice Mayor David M. Sander was sworn in by his wife, Dr. Margaret Parsons, with his teenaged son also present for the oath-taking. Both he and Mayor Budge will hold the roles of mayor and vice mayor through 2023.

Both Mayor Budge and Council Member Gatewood had, earlier in the evening, also been sworn in for a new term on the City Council that runs through 2026. Both were re-elected to four-year terms by Rancho Cordova residents in the November 2022 general election.

Following the swearing in ceremony, outgoing Mayor Donald Terry was presented with an engraved gavel plaque by Mayor Budge, who thanked him for “piloting our little ship of state through the year.”
