RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - It was a brisk Thursday morning, on January 26, in the Countryside neighborhood in Rancho Cordova, and on Ellenwood Avenue, dozens of volunteers were busy hauling lumber, landscaping new mulch and laying pavers for a new patio.

Employees from 12 different Home Depot locations throughout the region donated their time, skills and expertise to Rebuilding Together Sacramento to provide home upgrades to a resident who needed a helping hand.

With support from the city’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, Rebuilding Together Sacramento and the City of Rancho Cordova have partnered since 2014 to improve the health, safety, efficiency and curb appeal of Rancho Cordova homes.

“Everyone is out here volunteering on their day off to give back – It’s about the community,” said Angelo, who organized the group of volunteers with his brother Andrew. “It’s also about comradery, and teaching volunteers about things they might not otherwise learn, like plumbing, or how to build a fence.”

The homeowner, Susan, was all smiles, “I am so happy and so blessed.”

So far, there have been over 100 volunteer hours dedicated to providing key upgrades to Susan’s home. Home Depot also donated $9,000 in materials such as rock and mulch. Once the first phase of upgrades is complete, the team will return to the home in March to paint and upgrade the roof and siding.
