RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - As the 2023 football season starts to wind down, the Cordova Lancers are revving up their game play with a focus on making it to the post season. On Friday, October 13th, the Lancers completely dominated Florin High as they defeated the Panthers by a score of 49-7. 

The Cordova Lancers rushed for 238 yards and had 168 yards in receptions for a total of 406 yards during the evening.  Senior quarterback Jayden Ryce accounted for all yards in the passing category with 8 receptions on 12 attempts. Senior tight end Michael Brown had 65 receiving yards in three receptions for an average of 21.7 yards per catch. Sophomore Damajae Moses and senior Ruvim Kravchuk both had 47 yards in two receptions.

Leading the ground assault for Cordova was junior tailback Elijah Wallace with 98 yards in 5 carries for an average of 19.6 yards per carry. Wallace scored 2 touchdowns on the evening. He scored the game’s first touchdown on a 45-yard punt return and later added another TD on a long run around the right side early in the 3rd quarter. Running the ball for the first time this season for injured running back senior Aleksey Medvedev was senior Diego Cisneros. Cisneros had 53 yards in 2 carries with one long run of 30 yards. Cisneros also had a kickoff return for 48 yards early in the 3rd quarter setting up Wallace’s 2nd TD.

Senior Davit Khachatryan contributed 36 yards in 3 carries. Senior Jabari Davis had 32 yards in 4 carries.

Also scoring two touchdowns during the night was Brown. The first of his two TD’s came early in the 1st quarter on a pass reception from Ryce on fourth and fourteen. Brown’s 2nd score came on a short run around the right side later in the 1st quarter.  Cordova’s other three touchdowns were scored by Davis on a short run up the middle, Moses on a short pass from Ryce and one on a nice run around the left side by Cisneros. Senior place kicker Rodrigo Gonzalez kicked all 7 successful PAT’s.

The Big Red defense was pretty much in control of the Florin offensive attack the entire night. Leading the Lancers on defense were junior Sunny Carson, sophomore Julian Drahn, sophomore Anthony Gomez, junior Ethan Lam and senior Janathan Huckabay. Drahn and Gomez both had a quarterback sack.  Gomez’s was for a 6-yard loss and Drahn’s was for a 4-yard loss.

The last two games of the season are very important for the Lancers to win if they want to be sure of a spot in the post season playoffs. October 20th they play Natomas for Cordova’s 60th Homecoming and on October 27th it will be Senior Night as they take on Johnson. Come on out and cheer your Big Red Lancers on to victory.
