RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - At Mountain Meadows Camp near Shingletown, California, nearly four hours north of Rancho Cordova, seven students from Cordova High School participated in the 2023 Shasta Forestry Challenge. Alongside other students from 15 different high schools, participants spent four days in the forest learning about its ecology and forest management.
“I wish it wasn’t over so soon, I wish it never ended. Forestry Challenge is so much fun, I never want to leave!” said James Abdulla, a junior at CHS.
Beyond providing students with a chance to experience outdoor recreation and develop an appreciation for the forest, this program also allows students to learn alongside natural resource professionals including foresters, wildlife biologists, hydrologists and more.
“This has been an amazing experience for our students. The hands-on experience they have received has already shown to expand both their knowledge and appreciation for professions involving forestry and I believe will stay with them for the rest of their lives,” said CHS teacher Mak Neves.
