RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Parents gathered to hear from FCUSD Educational Leaders at the fall Parent Summit at Rancho Cordova Elementary School last November. For the last 10 years, FCUSD Director of Categorical Programs and Grants, Elena Cabrera has hosted Parent Summits as a way for various District departments to connect directly with parents, provide important District and program information that supports student success and parent empowerment, and gather feedback from our parents whom we value as partners in education.
During the event, the primary focus was on helping families navigate changing circumstances, empowering parents through adult education, offering essential student and family support services, and encouraging active family involvement. An update on Community Schools was provided by Carla Gaymon-Davis and information on funding allocation at each school site was provided by Cabrera, so necessary support may address the unique needs of each school’s student population.
To ensure that parents could fully participate in the program without any distractions, childcare services were made available at the summit. Furthermore, Spanish, Russian, and Farsi translators were on hand to ensure that every parent could make the most of the program.
Parent summits like these empower families with the knowledge and resources needed to actively engage in their children's education, fostering a collaborative relationship that ultimately benefits students and the entire community. These events underscore the importance of open communication and partnership between schools and families, reinforcing the notion that education is a collective effort that transcends the classroom.
