RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Students and faculty at Cordova High School celebrated the completion of the newly renovated weight room at a ribbon cutting event earlier this month.

The upgraded and renovated weight room was completed with the help of the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement and Investment Fund, a voter-approved sales tax that funds community priorities. Community priorities range from public safety to public works, to legacy projects, to community-based and grassroots programs and initiatives, to opportunities for residents and businesses.

The Community Enhancement and Investment Fund sponsored the costs of the new equipment, totaling over $200,000, and the Folsom Cordova Unified School District contributed in-kind staffing to complete the renovation. The revamped weight room reflects the needs of today’s students and athletes and includes all new weights, equipment, turf and more. The weight room now includes areas for CrossFit, free weights, speed and agility exercises, and anaerobic and strength activities—and is available to all students, not just student athletes.

At the ribbon cutting event, students, administrators, City Council Members and Folsom Cordova School Board Members expressed their gratitude for the weight room renovations and explained the benefits of the upgraded space.

“The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to support projects that offer exceptional opportunities for student growth and wellbeing,” said Rancho Cordova Mayor David Sander. “Creating a strong body helps create a strong mind, and we are extremely excited for our students to use this state-of-the-art facility. We have charted a different path in Rancho Cordova by establishing active partnerships between the city and our school districts. It is our shared responsibility as a community to make sure that our kids have the best facilities and opportunities.”
