RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Soroptimist International of Rancho Cordova & Gold River club recently donated a brand-new heating pad to the health office of Cordova High School, Kinney High School, Walnutwood High School, Mitchell Middle School, and Mills Middle School. “The Soroptimist organization is about removing barriers so that women and girls can receive an education to achieve economic empowerment,” said club president Sheryl Longsworth. “Girls suffering with menstrual cramps are sent home for the day if their parents/guardian haven’t authorized medication. This doesn’t keep girls in school. If they can sit with a heating pad for 20-30 mins, usually they will feel well enough to return to class,” said Longsworth.

Cordova High’s nurse said, “This heating pad arrived just in time! The one we had just disappeared,” and Mitchell Middle School’s nurse said, “This is the best gift we could receive! We just threw away what we were using before.”

Soroptimist is an international 501(c)3 non-profit organization who seeks to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women," and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are people at their best, working to help other women and girls be their best.
