Cordova High Celebrates Commencement Ceremony

The school spirit was electric and that enthusiasm was once again present on May 24 at the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2024.

Three-hundred-and-seventy-three students walked across the stage and proudly received their diplomas.
The event, which took place in Lancer Stadium, was a memorable occasion for students, families and staff alike.

The ceremony featured several district dignitaries, including Jennifer Laret, vice president, Folsom Cordova Board of Education; David Reid, clerk, Folsom Cordova Board of Education; Chris Clark, Folsom Cordova Board of Education; Folsom Cordova Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Sarah Koligian; Dr. Jim Huber, assistant superintendent educational services; Angela Griffin, director, communication and community engagement; and Joye McKetty, director of food services.
I gave special recognition to Superintendent Dr. Koligian who is retiring at the end of June, sharing, “Thank you for your 37 years of service in public education and for the last seven here in Folsom Cordova. Cordova High is a better place because of your leadership and, personally, I am inspired and grateful for your mentorship and example.”
The Cordova Senior Choir performs the National Anthem.
The ceremony began with junior Emma Smiley reading the recently-adopted land acknowledgment statement by the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. The Air Force JROTC Color Guard presented the colors to the flag followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Associated Student Body President Sierra Adair and Senior Class President Francheska Escobar delivered a heartfelt speech, reminiscing about their high school journey and the bonds formed along the way.

My address emphasized the importance of a growth mindset encouraging graduates to continue learning and growing.

Valedictorian Shanya Sobhi inspired her peers with her story of overcoming challenges as a newcomer to the country and learning a new language. She urged her fellow graduates to be courageous and seek advice when needed, reflecting on her personal growth and academic achievements.

The ceremony was also highlighted by an outstanding solo performance from Leilani Williams-Carter, captivating the audience with her talent.

The commencement concluded with the singing of the cherished Alma Mater, followed by a joyous celebration on the field where families gathered to honor the graduates. For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony was live streamed by @AllTownMedia, ensuring that all could partake in the special event.
