RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Rick Sloan has been honored with a Certificate of Appreciation by Rancho Cordova Arts for his contributions to advancing the local arts community.
Sloan was recognized during the sixth Annual Rancho Cordova Arts Members Show last week at the Mills Station Arts and Culture Center (MACC).
Sloan was honored for six years of service on the Rancho Cordova Arts board of directors, which he helped create. Sloan helped mold the organization’s brand by creating the now familiar Rancho Cordova Arts logo and participating in the early activities that have shaped the city’s robust art scene.
Sloan expressed appreciation for the recognition and vowed to continue working to develop the fine art scene of Rancho Cordova.
Beginning with the first Rancho Cordova City Hall art show in 2011 dubbed “Genesis,” Rancho Cordova Arts went on to form an independent nonprofit organization. The quarterly exhibits have continued under the “Art at City Hall” banner. Rancho Cordova Arts has continued an active schedule of activities at the MACC and at community events, even hosting an annual fundraising event called “Micro Masterpieces,” which has raised more than $50,000 for art supplies for school children over the past four years.
“My continued efforts will focus on the development of the new civic center and artists’ studios that are taking off in Rancho Cordova,” Sloan said. “We need more spaces that showcase the work of many artists that make the ‘passion happen.’”
Sloan noted that showcases developed and supported by Rancho Cordova Arts are giving local artists career opportunities not available to him when he moved to the area in 1984.
Sloan is a professional artist and graphic artist. An elected member of the Cordova Recreation and Park District board of directors and a familiar figure at Rancho Cordova community and youth sporting events, Sloan shares his photography talents by providing photo essays to organizations and local media.
