MCCLELLAN, CA (MPG) - The Aerospace Museum of California is pleased to announce the return of We Can Do It - Together! An opportunity to inspire the next generation of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

This event will take place across two days, hosting nearly 2,000 girls and women on Sept. 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature prominent women working in STEM fields. It is a perfect opportunity for middle school and high school-age girls to meet and learn from Sacramento area women role models who will share their journey in STEM. Students will be able to connect with diverse women in various STEM careers at our table talks and participate in fun STEM-based demonstrations, activities, scavenger hunts and a panel discussion.

Linda Martin, the Aerospace Museum of California’s Board President and event co-chair stated, “As a former Associate Superintendent, I know how important it is to inspire our young people, especially girls, with engaging hands-on STEM education. Our museum’s upcoming event We Can Do It - Together: Inspiring Girls in STEM pays homage to Rosie the Riveter, who became an iconic symbol and inspiration to women, who stepped up and took on previously male-dominated roles in factories during World War II. Today, we aim to inspire another generation of women to explore, discover and dream of a career in STEM.”

As the museum strives each year to stand by the mission to Explore, Discover, and Be Inspired, it is committed to the community of Sacramento to provide a place for young children and teens to build hands-on knowledge in an inspiring place of learning.

Heidi Sanborn, SMUD Board Member, and event co-chair, stated that “currently, women are underrepresented in STEM careers, accounting for only 28% of the workforce. As a community partner, SMUD believes that fun and engaging hands-on experiences in STEM learning will spark interest and passion, and events like We Can Do It - Together will help connect young girls with role models and explore future career opportunities. As event co-chair, I am proud to join with community partners and volunteers as we welcome many new faces to the event this year inspiring girls in STEM.”

The Aerospace Museum of California will bring dozens of professional women from diverse fields and backgrounds to be STEM/STEAM role models for this event. Some of the event partners include SMUD, Lionakis, Microsoft, West Yost, HealthNet, Intel, and many more. This is an incredible opportunity for both youth and teen women interested in pursuing a career in STEM to learn from and be inspired by top individuals from Sacramento companies and organizations.

Students will interact with, and hear from, these incredible women as they describe how they became interested in their field, provide insight into a day in their life, and share what they have learned from their experiences. Career path information will be available as well as interactive demonstrations and fun hands-on STEM-based activities and experiments such as binary code bracelet making, design and build a scribble bot, and learn about wind turbines, rocket launching and so much more!
