SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Regional Parks is pausing the re-opening of “Gravel Road A” to focus resources on completing necessary Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements to the restroom facility and main parking lot off the Illinois access. Gravel roads, including the 0.35 mile “Gravel Road A” will remain closed at this time as Regional Parks works towards creating a plan, in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, to include a fully accessible trail at Sailor Bar. 

Liz Bellas, Director of Regional Parks thanks all who participated in last week’s Recreation and Park Commission meeting, adding “we hope this action will help re-focus the intention on creating safe accessible access to areas of the Regional Parks system to people with mobility issues as well as other disabilities which will assist Parks in reaching our overarching goal of increasing public access to Regional Parks.” 

Supervisor Rich Desmond, whose district includes Sailor Bar, stated, “Sailor Bar is an absolute gem along the American River Parkway, and the public discourse surrounding the park has highlighted its appeal among residents of our region. I look forward to working with our Regional Parks staff as they develop an Americans with Disabilities Act plan for Sailor Bar, and I hope to find ways to partner with groups throughout the County to bring more outdoor education experiences for youth and adults alike to this idyllic space along the river.”
