RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lady Lancers wrapped up their first season in the Metro League earlier this month and missed out on the postseason following a fifth-place finish. Despite ending the year with a 5-12 overall record, including a 3-7 mark in league play, there is plenty of optimism for the future under the guidance of head coach Kim Little.
After dominating the Greater Sacramento League the last several seasons, the Lady Lancers transitioned into the new Metro League this spring with hopes of continuing their success. Even though things did not go quite the way the team had hoped, there are several positives that can be taken out of a down year. With a team comprised of mainly underclassmen, the Lady Lancers were competitive in a brand-new league, and figure to be playing in a ton of meaningful games in the seasons to come.
Perhaps the top reason for optimism comes from the play of sophomore slugger Becca Lee, who led the Lady Lancers in multiple offensive categories. On the year, Lee compiled an impressive .540 batting average, a .617 on base percentage, blasted four home runs, and tallied 27 hits. Her powerful swing will only get better heading into her junior season, and Lee will be counted on in a big way to contribute even more to a team looking to have a bounce back season next spring.
Additionally, the play of junior Briel Brookins was quite impressive this season. Her 14 stolen bases and 23 runs led the team in those respective categories, and she ranked second on the team in hits with 22. She proved to be a very dependable hitter in the Lady Lancers lineup and should excel in her senior season.
After facing their opponents within league play for the first time this season, the Lady Lancers figure to be better prepared to face their competitors in the spring of 2026 having gained invaluable experience as a young team. That, combined with a solid core group of youngsters entering what should be their best years yet, should give the Lady Lancers and their supporters reasons to be very excited for what’s to come.
