Cordova High Class of ’65 has 60th Reunion

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - When Cordova High School’s Class of 1965 has its 60th class reunion on Sept. 27, fond memories will abound: gas was 25 cents a gallon, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs were belting out “Wooly Bully” and the Dodgers of Los Angeles were defeating Minnesota’s Twins in the World Series.
Fondly known as “65’ers,” Cordova’s first graduating class will meet at 5:30 pm in Building 1 at the Cordova Recreation and Park District, the same building that many ‘65’ers enjoyed during their Junior Prom those many years ago.
Music will be provided by the Wayne Stark Band, performed by Class of ’65 frontman Wayne Stark, who will serenade the alumni with an assortment of classic 1960s music. Food will be provided by West Coast Sourdough.
The “65’ers” have a special kinship with the high school. Each fall, they are well-represented during Cordova High’s annual Homecoming football game.
And last year, classmates Dennis Trainor and Mike Krause refurbished the Cordova High School Spirit Shield that was found after a 38-year absence. The Spirit Shield now is in the Cordova High awards case at Rancho Cordova City Hall.
“Roots matter, I think,” ’65 alum April Krause told The Grapevine earlier this year. “Friendships, old and new, remind us of all of the connectivity of life and the many changes and challenges that affect all of us.”
A get-together is also planned the day after the reunion at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Straw Hat Pizza, 2929 Mather Field Road.
For those wishing to attend the reunion, tickets are $50 per person and can be obtained by emailing April Krause at [email protected].
