RANCHO, CORDOVA (MPG) - At Summerset Senior Living Rancho Cordova, love stories often live on through the memories and experiences of residents. One of the most touching is Leanne’s story with her husband Louie, a love that began nearly 70 years ago and continues to inspire today.

It all started in 1955 in Los Altos. Louie was just a teenager at his eighth-grade graduation when he saw Leanne for the first time. Her family had recently moved to town and Louie still remembers the moment she walked across the stage in her yellow dress to receive her diploma. For him, it was love at first sight.

The two grew closer in high school. They officially met in study hall when Louie, who was flunking, was seated next to Leanne, the teacher’s pet. Louie jokes that Leanne did not manage to save his grades.

“I still flunked and her grade dropped to a C,” Louie said.

What began as a funny twist of fate turned into the start of a lifelong bond.

After graduation, Louie joined the Air Force and spent three years stationed in England. Distance did not keep them apart. They wrote letters back and forth, and Leanne even traveled overseas to visit him. At just 23 years old, Louie returned home in August 1964 and by that fall, they were married.

Louie still tears up remembering the sight of her walking toward him in her white wedding dress. For Louie, it was a full circle moment, first seeing her in yellow and then seeing her as his bride in white.

Together, Louie and Leanne built a life anchored in love, faith and family. They raised two children, a son and a daughter, and today their legacy continues through five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Both served as pastors in their church, setting an example of devotion and partnership for other couples.

When asked their secret to a long and happy marriage, Louie smiled and said, “Never go to bed angry.” He laughed as he added, “We stayed up late talking things through if we had to and what happened after those talks is nobody’s business.”

Although their love looks different today than it did in 1955, Louie and Leanne still find joy in the little moments they share. Their story is a reminder that true love, rooted in patience, laughter and faith, can last a lifetime and beyond.
