DAVIS, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lancers fell to the Davis Blue Devils 27-20 in a non-league showdown on Oct. 24 inside Davis High School’s Ron and Mary Brown Stadium.

The Lancers (3-6 overall, 1-3 Metro League) held a narrow one-point lead late in the fourth quarter before Davis senior quarterback David Durksen connected on a five-yard scoring strike to junior Jake Saban with 2:07 remaining, giving the Blue Devils (3-6 overall) the lead.

Senior Carson Arosteguy would convert on a two-point conversion to put Davis ahead by seven.

The Lancers would march downfield on the ensuing possession but junior quarterback Trey Wallace would throw an ill-timed interception in the endzone from the Blue Devils' 28-yard line to Davis senior Brody Beckwith, ending the Cordova comeback attempt.

Despite three interceptions defensively for the Lancers, including two by junior Zachary McIntire in the second half, it would not be enough to overcome a potent Davis passing attack.

Durksen paced the Blue Devils offensively, going 12-of-26 passing for 213 yards and four touchdowns. For the Lancers, Wallace and McIntire each recorded rushing scores.

The Lancers are currently in fifth place within the Metro League, trailing Destiny Christian Academy (2-2 overall, third place) and Antelope (2-3 overall, fourth place). The top three teams within the league standings will advance to the playoffs, and as Cordova dropped both head-to-head games against the two rivals, it appears that their postseason hopes are over.

The Lancers head into their season finale at home inside Lancer Stadium on Oct. 30 against area powerhouse Grant High School, who are undefeated in Metro League play (3-0). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
