RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova recently completed the installation of a traffic circle and roundabout at Lincoln Village Drive and Baroque Drive. These roadway improvements are designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow by encouraging slower speeds and continuous movement through the intersection.
“Traffic circles and roundabouts are an innovative way to improve neighborhood safety and traffic flow. By encouraging slower speeds and continuous movement, with yield control at side entries, they create safer, more efficient streets for everyone,” said public works engineer Edgar Media.
Completed in October, the traffic calming project on Lincoln Village Drive was a result of requests from the community for improvements to enhance safety and reduce travel speeds. In addition to the traffic circle at Lincoln Village Drive and Explorer Drive (West), improvements included median islands, hardened centerlines, speed lumps and bulb-outs along the entire corridor.
The traffic calming project in the Stone Creek neighborhood on Baroque Drive is also intended to reduce speeds and enhance safety along the corridor for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Project enhancements included surface treatment and striping, enhanced crosswalks, lane narrowing and bike lane improvements along the entire corridor and a mini roundabout at the Kilgore Road intersection.

The City of Rancho Cordova offers tips for traveling through a traffic circle and roundabouts: Slow down as you approach the circle. Yield to cars already in the circle. Stop as indicated on traffic circle side-controlled entry points. Enter when it’s clear and don’t stop inside the circle. Use your turn signal when you’re ready to exit. Stay in your lane and don’t pass other vehicles. Watch for pedestrians and cyclists at crosswalks.
