RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, a commercial structure fire was called in at approximately 2:23 a.m. on Nov. 3, prompting a two-alarm response to the former Epoch Casino building.

Photos of the fire show flames erupting from the center of the building’s roof. No injuries from the fire were reported and the roughly 10,000 square foot space is being assessed by arson investigators to determine the cause of the blaze, Sac Metro Fire Captain Mark Nunez said.

"Metro Fire would like to remind the community that fires can double in size every minute," Nunez said. "In the event of a fire, evacuate immediately and call 911 from a safe location."

The incident was immediately upgraded to a second-alarm fire upon arrival, Nunez said. Firefighters aggressively attacked the flames while also searching the building for any occupants. Fire officials said the intensity of the "well-involved fire" had originated outside of the building and made its way into the building's attic.  

The casino, located at 11275 Folsom Blvd., caused fire crews to shut down parts of Folsom Boulevard for several hours on Nov. 3, addressing hot spots and the mop up effort.
