RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Cordova Lancers varsity head basketball coach Kevin Bridgeforth has resigned from his position with the team, according to school Athletic Director JP Dolliver.

The Lancers, who just began their winter season, had been under the guidance of Bridgeforth for just over one year. In his first season at the helm in the 2024-2025 school year, Bridgeforth coached the Lancers to a 1-22 overall record, including a 0-12 mark in Metro League play as he worked to establish a new culture within the basketball program. The circumstances surrounding Bridgeforth stepping down are unknown.

Officials at Cordova High School declined our request for comment on the matter, deferring to Folsom Cordova Unified School District Director of Athletics Peter Maroon.

When reached for comment, Maroon provided the following statement: "We wish Kevin Bridgeforth the best moving forward," he said. "We greatly appreciate all he did for the kids in the year that he was here."

Bridgeforth also did not respond to a request for comment.

Social media buzz following Bridgeforth's resignation has linked American River College assistant basketball coach Christopher Collins to the Lancers' coaching vacancy, however neither Dolliver nor Maroon could confirm that Collins was being hired for the job at press time.

Collins has also served as Director at YBA Elite, one of Northern California's top Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball programs since 2014 and is widely respected in youth basketball. An update will be provided when a formal announcement has been made.

Heading into Christmas break, the Lancers had compiled a 2-6 overall record. Lancers’ junior varsity head coach Andre Evans has served as interim varsity head coach while the program looks to bring on their new hire. With Metro League play beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 6 in a home clash against visiting West Park, the team will have their work cut out for them as they hope to compete in an ever-ready division.
