RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lady Lancers began Metro League play last week with a road matchup at McClatchy on Tuesday, Jan. 6 as well as a home game against Kennedy on Thursday, Jan. 8. Although the Lancers dropped both games, there is reason for optimism.
The Lady Lancers (3-7-1 overall, 0-2 Metro League at press time) dropped their league opener against McClatchy in a 3-0 loss. The Lions (4-4-1 overall, 1-1 Metro League at press time) did lose at West Park last week however, keeping the Lady Lancers just one game back of the Lions for third place in league standings, with the top three teams in the Metro earning playoff spots at the end of the regular season.

Freshman Mia Joyce (No.3) and junior Harlie Wilson (N0.18) work together to stop Kennedy’s advance.
Cordova dropped their Metro League home opener against visiting Kennedy (3-1 overall, 2-0 Metro League) in a 3-1 defeat, but there were bright spots. Lady Lancers senior midfielder Karen Gonzalez scored her first goal of the season in the loss, and senior goalie Alanna Thomas recorded five saves in a valiant effort. Her 47 total saves on the season rank No. in the Metro League, and No. 2 within the Sac Joaquin Section Division II.
Cordova continued their Metro League campaign this week with a road game at Grant on Tuesday, Jan. 13 and a home game against Antelope on Thursday, Jan. 15, however final results from those contests were not available at press time.
