RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - After a 1-3 start within Metro League play, the Cordova Lady Lancers are approaching a critical slate of games that may very well determine the fate of their season.

At 6-10 overall including their league record, the Lady Lancers entered this week in fifth place in league standings. The Lady Lancers are still within striking distance of third place and the final playoff spot given within the Metro League, trailing just behind both West Park (1-2 in league, fourth place) and McClatchy (2-1 in League, third place). With two of their next four contests coming against those two league rivals, Cordova head coach Kim Bradley knows what’s at stake.

“We definitely have a playoff mindset,” Bradley said. “We’re competing in practice and preparing for those opponents. We know we have a fighting chance.”

Following a loss at Antelope on Thursday, Jan. 15, the Lady Lancers found themselves with an 11-day break in between games as their next contest isn't until this Monday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Grant High School to face the second place Lady Pacers (12-4 overall, 2-0 Metro League at press time). Bradley said the team is using that time to work on the little things in practice so they can be as prepared as possible for the upcoming stretch run. Bradley also mentioned that she has seen tremendous growth throughout the season, primarily from her team leaders in juniors Becca Lee and Tiah Kennedy, along with senior Taliyah Johnson.

The Lady Lancers will host West Park on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. inside the main gym, and supporters are highly encouraged to attend what should be a very competitive matchup. West Park edged out Cordova 35-27 back on Jan. 7, and with a potential playoff spot within reach, the Lady Lancers are well aware of the importance of that game.
