RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - For the second time this season, the Cordova Lancers have found themselves looking for a new boys’ varsity basketball head coach.

Chris Collins, who was brought in at the beginning of January after previous coach Kevin Bridgeforth stepped down prior to Christmas break, was informed he was being relieved of his duties as of Wednesday, Feb. 4. Circumstances around the decision were unknown as of press time, with both Collins and the Cordova athletic department unable to be reached for comment.

Collins had helped coach the Lancers (4-16 overall, 2-8 Metro League at press time) to two league wins after failing to win a single league contest a season ago. Collins, who was brought in midway through the season just as league play began, appeared to have the program headed in the right direction with both his short-term and long-term vision for the team.

Collins also serves as the director at YBA Elite, one of the biggest youth AAU basketball programs in Northern California and is an assistant coach at American River College. His basketball acumen and understanding of development at the youth level brought some excitement to the Lancers’ program, but they will now be looking to fill their vacant head coaching position this offseason. It was unclear who would assume the role of coaching the team during their remaining three games as of press time.

More information will be provided at a later date as further details are gathered.
