SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) – KCRA 3 announced recently that Michelle Dapper has been named Sports Director, continuing her long-standing leadership and award-winning coverage of sports throughout Northern California.
Dapper has been a key member of the KCRA 3 sports team since 2014 and brings nearly two decades of experience covering the biggest moments in professional, collegiate and high school athletics. Throughout her career, she has reported from six Super Bowls, NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors, World Series matchups with the San Francisco Giants, Spring Training and Major League Baseball’s expansion into Sacramento. She also covered the Sacramento Kings’ first playoff run in 16 seasons and has reported on hundreds of high school football games and multiple state championship events across a variety of sports.
“A dream come true doesn’t even begin to cover it," said KCRA 3 Sports Director Michelle Dapper. “Sacramento is home, our athletes inspire me daily, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to lead the KCRA 3 sports team into the future.”
“For more than a decade, Michelle has connected our audience to the heart of Northern California sports,” said KCRA 3/My58 President and General Manager Ariel Roblin. “She understands the powerful role sports coverage plays in our community, highlighting the triumphs, resilience and dedication of our local athletes. Above all, Michelle understands the legacy of KCRA 3 Sports, and I couldn’t be prouder to see her lead the next chapter.”
"Michelle brings the perfect blend of expertise and enthusiasm to sports," said Derek Schnell, KCRA 3 News Director and Hearst Television Regional Director of News. "She is passionate about shining a spotlight on every aspect of local sports, from young athletes to pro competitors, plus coaches and our community. I'm thrilled to have her leading our efforts for years to come."
Dapper’s work has earned significant recognition, including a Northern California Emmy Award and a Gold Telly Award for her contributions to the KCRA 3 documentary “Game On,” which chronicled the high-stakes 2013 battle between Sacramento and Seattle over the future of the Kings NBA franchise.
A native Californian, Dapper’s previous career stops include KHQ in Spokane, Washington; KEZI in Eugene, Oregon; and KRBC in Abilene, Texas. She is a graduate of San Francisco State University.
As sports director, Dapper will continue to lead KCRA 3’s sports coverage across all platforms, focusing on the stories, athletes, and communities that define Northern California sports.
