RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - More than 2,400 elementary students across Rancho Cordova are participating in a powerful social–emotional learning art experience this month, inspired by the book “The Magic of Making a Difference: One CAN Make a Difference.”
The initiative, Waves of Kindness, invites students to design their own colorful flag banners using drawings, poetry, stickers and handwritten messages of encouragement. One by one, each flag is added to a shared cord, forming a vibrant visual “wave” that demonstrates how a single act of care can ripple outward and impact an entire school community.
Thanks to generous grant support from the City of Rancho Cordova Government, all creative materials are being provided at no cost to participating schools through the Measure H Community Enhancement & Investment Fund.

Across seven Rancho Cordova school sites, Rancho Cordova Elementary, Cordova Villa Elementary, Williamson Elementary, Riverview STEM Academy, Mather Heights Elementary, White Rock Elementary and Navigator Elementary, students are creating banners filled with messages of love, empathy and hope. While some campuses have already completed their displays and are proudly showcasing their colorful pennants, others are preparing to host their activities in the coming days.

Special thanks to FCUSD Climate Facilitators for guiding this meaningful experience, to the City of Rancho Cordova Government for its generous support through the Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, and to Dr. Marlena Uhrik, originator of Waves of Kindness, for inspiring and championing this impactful opportunity for our students.
