RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Alumni from Cordova High School will participate in the city’s annual Fourth of July parade with a dedicated float celebrating the school’s history and community impact.

The float is the brainchild of Dennis Trainor, a 1965 graduate, who organized the effort to honor 62 graduating classes since the school first opened in the fall of 1963. Trainor said the idea is to highlight both the legacy of Cordova high School and its connection to the city’s continued growth.

“What better way to bring attention to young students in Rancho Cordova than to have a float emblematic of the rich and storied tradition of Cordova High School,” Trainor said. “Rancho Cordova is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Sacramento region, and the parade itself continues to grow in popularity each year. Cordova High’s alumni are in a unique position to help tell that story.”

Trainor is leading a committee of alumni organizers, with participants expected to represent graduating classes from 1965 through 2026. The float will be garnished in patriotic red, white and blue accoutrements and feature an artistic rendering of the school’s historic logo of a charging knight/Lancer on horseback holding a shield adorned with a script “C.”

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on July 4 along Coloma Road and is scheduled to conclude at Cordova High School around 11:30 a.m.

Alumni interested in participating in the float should contact Dennis Trainor at 209-327-5978 or Kathleen Shafer, 1972 graduate, at 916-207-6606.
