RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Girls Softball program capped off its 61st season with a summer to remember, as five All-Star teams delivered a dominant performance against regional competition, earning 12 tournament championships and building memories that players, families and coaches will carry for years to come.

The All-Star season, which runs from May through July, featured five Cordova Fury teams practicing throughout the week and competing in weekend tournaments. Together, the teams posted an impressive 104-22 record while representing Rancho Cordova across the region.

The season began with the 28th Annual Stars of Cordova Tournament, where Cordova Fury claimed the championship for the second consecutive year after competing against 21 other leagues. All five Cordova teams advanced to their division championship games, and the players’ determination and teamwork earned them the tournament’s perpetual “Star of Cordova” trophy.

In addition to the All-Star teams’ success, Cordova’s two Select teams competed during the spring season and finished with a combined 46-12 record while winning four additional championships.

The 2026 All-Star season results included the following.

8U: 25-1 record, three championships
10U: 23-4 record, three championships
12U C: 13-11 record, one championship
12U Select: 23-4 record, two championships
14U Select: 20-2 record, three championships

Cordova Girls Softball President Rod Borba, who has led the organization for 26 years, said this season stood out among all the years he has spent with the program.

“In my 26 years of leading the organization, I have never seen this level of performance from our teams. It is legendary,” Borba said. “The experience the teams had has created great memories.”

Among those memories was a dramatic championship run by the 8U Cordova Fury team. Their only loss of the summer came in the opening tournament, when they fell 1-0 to Roseville in the championship game of the Stars of Cordova Tournament. The team carried that loss with them throughout the season, eventually winning 24 consecutive games before facing Roseville again in the NORCAL championship.

In the title game, Roseville held a 1-0 lead heading into the final inning. With two outs and runners on first and second base, Samantha Spillane stepped to the plate. After battling through multiple pitches and fouling off several attempts from Roseville’s top pitcher, Spillane faced an 0-2 count before delivering a game-changing line drive to the outfield. With runners given the green light, Moriah Simmons raced home from first base to score the winning run and secure the championship.

That kind of perseverance and teamwork defined the season for every Cordova Fury team, according to league leaders. Coaches and families watched players grow not only as athletes but also as teammates and leaders.

“These teams had a great summer and created stories that parents and coaches will share for years to come,” Borba said.

Cordova Girls Softball is a community-based recreational program serving girls ages 4 to 16 in Rancho Cordova and surrounding communities. The organization provides opportunities to play softball during the spring season, participate in summer All-Star competition and compete in fall programs. The league is based at Mills Middle School on Coloma Road and is operated by dedicated volunteers who are committed to supporting girls’ athletics.
