RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - A new tradition is set to begin in Rancho Cordova as children prepare to dive into the inaugural Cordova Youth Triathlon, an event designed to challenge young athletes, build confidence and celebrate healthy, active living.
The triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at Hagan Community Park, welcomes participants ages 6 to 16 for a race that combines swimming, cycling and running. Organizers say the event is about much more than competition, creating an opportunity for children of all abilities to experience the excitement of crossing a finish line while discovering what they can accomplish.
“We welcome participants of all skill levels and abilities,” event organizers said. “Whether a first-time racer or an experienced competitor aiming for a personal best, every participant is celebrated for their effort and determination.”
Athletes will begin in the Hagan Park pool before transitioning to a bike course along nearby trails and finishing with a run around the park’s baseball fields. Distances have been tailored to each age group, ranging from a 25- to 125-yard swim, a 1- to 2-mile bike ride and a quarter- to 1-mile run, allowing participants to compete at an appropriate level.
Organizers said the course has been carefully designed with safety in mind. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the event to direct and encourage participants, while athletes will start in age-based waves to help ensure a smooth race experience. Helmets are required during the cycling portion, and each participant will receive an ankle timing chip, race bib, commemorative T-shirt and finisher's medal.
Awards will also be presented to the top three finishers in each age division, but organizers hope every participant leaves with something more meaningful.
“It’s not just about competition, it’s about discovering what you’re capable of and having a great time along the way,” organizers said.
Families are encouraged to cheer on participants throughout the morning.
