RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - One of Cordova High School’s biggest and most athletically accomplished classes will honor the good times in a two-part reunion Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19.

The class of ‘76 had over 700 people who took diplomas and played on winning teams in football, baseball, women’s basketball and track and field.

“We have over 100 people already signed up, and there is still plenty of room for more,” said Michelle Hickman Crozier, one of the organizers of the events.  “Our class loved to party, and we will be doing a lot of it all together.”

The class of ‘76 graduated as the nation celebrated its 200th birthday, and the memories of that summer still ring down the years.

As a community project, the class, led by Becky Elliott Gabourie, spearheaded a project honoring the nation’s 250th year by painting the city’s fire hydrants red, white and blue. More than 55 hydrants have been painted, and the goal is to get to 250.

The “Rancho Cordova 250 Project” is sponsored by Golden State Water company and the City of Rancho Cordova.

“We have had a blast painting the hydrants as a way to show love for our city and country,” Gabourie said.

The main event, organized around the theme of “That Seventies Music,” will take place at the Elks Lodge in the early evening of Saturday, Sept. 19.
