RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Rancho Cordova city employees recently helped complete a new miniature City Hall at Safetyville USA, adding another landmark to the educational community designed to teach children important safety skills.

The city celebrated completion of the project Oct. 5 at Safetyville, 3909 Bradshaw Road in Sacramento.

Rancho Cordova employees volunteered their time to construct the building, taking part in demolition, construction and other work needed to replace or improve the miniature civic structure. The project gave city staff an opportunity to contribute directly to a long-running regional program serving children and families.

Safetyville is a miniature community designed to help children practice real-world safety skills in a controlled environment. It has served Sacramento-area families for decades as part of the Safety Center's educational programming. The roughly one-third-scale city includes streets, sidewalks, traffic signals, crosswalks and small buildings that allow children to learn about pedestrian, bicycle and traffic safety through hands-on activities.

The new City Hall adds a civic landmark to the setting while continuing the site’s emphasis on making safety education more interactive for young visitors.

City officials said the project was completed through teamwork among employees who volunteered outside their typical office responsibilities.

The Rancho Cordova exhibit was one of two additions celebrated at Safetyville during the week. The organization also welcomed WEAVE Inc., a nonprofit that supports survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking while promoting healthy and safe relationships.

Safetyville said the two ribbon cuttings also highlighted new community partnerships at the miniature city. The site welcomes more than 20,000 visitors each year and works with businesses, nonprofits and public agencies interested in establishing exhibits or other partnerships.
