RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Residents will have several opportunities in the coming weeks to meet city leaders, weigh in on a major development proposal, honor local veterans and give back to the community.

Events begin later this month and continue through mid-November.

Downtown DOVA community meeting

Residents can learn more about the proposed Downtown DOVA project during a community informational meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive.

City staff and members of the project team are expected to present information about the proposal and answer questions from community members.

The Downtown DOVA proposal has drawn community interest as plans move forward for a major new development envisioned for the city’s downtown area.

Coffee with the Mayor

Residents looking for a more informal conversation with city leadership can join Mayor Garrett Gatewood for Coffee with the Mayor from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Bagel Cafe, 10933 Olson Drive.

The gathering gives community members an opportunity to meet Gatewood, ask questions and share ideas.

A second Coffee with the Mayor is scheduled for the same time and location Tuesday, Nov. 17.

State of the City set for Nov. 10

Gatewood will deliver Rancho Cordova’s 2026 State of the City address Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, 11211 Point East Drive.

This year’s theme is “Building for What’s Next.”

A public reception begins at 5 p.m., followed by the State of the City address at 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

The annual address gives city leaders an opportunity to review recent developments and discuss priorities and plans for Rancho Cordova’s future.

Community to honor veterans

Rancho Cordova will mark Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with several community observances.

American flags will line Folsom Boulevard from Nov. 8 through Nov. 12 as part of the city’s annual salute to members of the U.S. armed forces.

The tribute will continue Nov. 12 with a Veterans Day blood drive at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive.

The blood drive is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and is being held in partnership with Vitalant and the Cordova Community Council.

Donors must generally be at least 16 years old, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors who are 16 must bring a signed Vitalant parental consent form. Participants should bring a valid photo ID, eat before donating and drink plenty of water.

Appointments are encouraged, although walk-ins will be accepted as space allows.
