RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - With the regular season coming to a close, the Cordova Lady Lancers are sending two of their own to participate in the upcoming CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Sac Joaquin Section Division II Divisional tournament. The tournament takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Swinson Golf Course in Stockton, CA.
The Lady Lancers qualified two juniors this season in Anna Vysotska and Avery Arnold, with the pair set to represent Cordova at the match. Within the Metro League, the top two teams overall send their group to the tournament, with the next six highest-ranked individual players also being invited.
Vysotska and Arnold ranked third and fourth from the individual player tier based on their outstanding play during regular season dual matches and during the two Metro League tournaments, and Lady Lancers Head Coach Brian Botsford couldn't be more excited for the duo.
“The number one thing is that they made it,” he said.
Botsford said that he and the two underclassmen will be checking out the course ahead of time having not played there previously, and they will also be preparing for the event out at Mather Golf Course in the days leading up. Being able to participate in the Divisional postseason event is huge considering the two Lady Lancers will gain invaluable experience that will certainly carry over into next fall when the pair return as seniors.
"This is the first time for them," Botsford said. "Last year we had two seniors, but these girls are juniors and that's just great. So the experience alone will be big. They deserve it. They've worked hard and provided leadership all through the season, so it'll be neat for them to participate in it."
Final results and reaction from the event will be provided following the Divisional tournament.
