RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Science experiments, sleight-of-hand and a steady stream of costumed trick-or-treaters filled Hagan Community Park on Saturday as Halloween at Hagan returned for its annual celebration.

The Cordova Recreation and Park District hosted the Oct. 24 event, bringing families to the Rancho Cordova park for an evening of live entertainment, carnival games, Halloween activities and the event’s popular trunk-or-treat.

CRPD Director Rick Sloan said community members turned out in large numbers, with attendees of all ages arriving in a wide variety of costumes.

“The Cordova Recreation and Park District always delivers a fun, engaging and exciting experience for all that attend,” Sloan said.

Among this year’s featured entertainment was Jordan Reading, known as “The Science Wizard,” who presented two shows combining science demonstrations with an educational approach. Reading also performed at last year’s Halloween at Hagan celebration.

Magician Bill Devon joined this year’s lineup with two performances featuring sleight-of-hand and other magic tricks.

"The Park District really delivered a fantastic Halloween experience for kids of all ages. The new magic show, Haunted Walkway and inflatable obstacle course were big hits," Sloan said. "I think this year really showcased a wider variety of costumes than ever before. I loved photographing all the fun and excitement."

Beyond the live shows, families moved throughout the park for carnival games, face painting, art projects, an inflatable obstacle course and the Haunted Walkway. A DJ provided music during the event, while food trucks offered additional options for attendees.

Candy remained a major part of the evening.

The free trunk-or-treat brought together participating businesses, nonprofit organizations and community members who decorated stations and handed out candy to children. Sloan said the trunk-or-treat area was moved farther into the park this year to provide more available parking for the large crowd.

The district’s official event lineup also included its Zombie Run, another returning Halloween at Hagan attraction.

The celebration ran from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hagan Community Park, 2197 Chase Drive. While the trunk-or-treat portion was free, the broader event included additional activities and entertainment throughout the park.

Halloween at Hagan has become an annual October event for the district. Last year’s celebration similarly featured trunk-or-treat stations, carnival activities and a performance by the Science Wizard, while this year’s event added a new mix of entertainment and adjusted the layout for attendees.

Sloan credited the event’s staff and community partners with helping put the evening together.

“Special thanks to the CRPD staff, our event sponsors, all the nonprofit organizations and small businesses that helped make this signature event better than ever,” Sloan said.
