RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Cordova Recreation & Park District (District) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award recognizes governments that demonstrate a constructive spirit of full disclosure and successfully communicate their financial position and results through a comprehensive, transparent and reader-focused financial report.

The District’s ACFR was reviewed by an impartial panel and found to meet the program’s rigorous standards for financial reporting, transparency and accountability. The report was recognized for clearly presenting the District’s financial story and providing meaningful information to residents, taxpayers, elected officials and other stakeholders.

The award adds to a growing list of financial management accomplishments for the District, including recently earning GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, a recognition that reflects excellence in governmental budgeting and fiscal planning.

“This award is especially meaningful because it complements our achievement of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” said Matt Goodell, Chief Financial Officer for the District. “Together, these recognitions demonstrate our commitment to excellence throughout the entire financial management process, from developing a strategic and transparent budget to delivering accurate and comprehensive financial reporting. I am incredibly proud of our finance team and the organization as a whole. These awards reflect the dedication and accountability that our staff brings to serving the residents of the Cordova Recreation & Park District.”

Goodell added, “Strong financial stewardship is about more than balancing budgets and preparing reports. It's about building trust with our community and ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly so we can continue investing in parks, recreation programs, facilities and services that enhance quality of life.”

The Government Finance Officers Association advances excellence in government finance through best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 28,000 members and the communities they serve. Learn more at https://www.gfoa.org/.
