For the second time in three games of the 47th annual Cordova Easter Tournament, the wins continued to build up for the Cordova High School baseball team.

The Lancers finished pool play Tuesday with a wild 10-9 win over Redwood Christian at Peterson Field. That win puts Cordova at 8-8 for the season, and when it returns to Sierra Valley Conference play next week at 5-3.

Behind 10-7 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lancers scored four runs that led toward the win.

“These Lancers don’t quit,” said Cordova head coach Doug Hughes of Tuesday’s game.

Cordova had 13 hits in the contest. Six players had multiple hits, led by Zack Guererro, who went 3-for-4 that included a double and 2 RBIs. Cranking out two hits each for the Lancers were Logan Appino, Ryan Tipton, Jordan Meyers, Austin Smith and Jeremy Buck. Smith had three RBIs, while Buck and Guererro had two each. Tipton and Smith also hit a double each.

On the mound, Meyers started the game, going 3 1/3 innings, gave up five hits and struck out one for the Lancers. Nick Ravareau tossed the final 3 2/3 innings, allowed one hit and struck out three.

The tournament was scheduled to continue on Wednesday morning, despite light to moderate rain hitting the Sacramento region. Cordova was scheduled to play Menlo of Atherton from the Bay Area.

Enterprise 9, Cordova 1

In its second game on Monday afternoon, also at Peterson Field, Cordova was held to only four hits.

Ravareau had one of those hits, plus an RBI. Tipton, along with Smith and Buck, had a hit each.

Cordova 10, Mesa Verde 0

Playing its first game of the tournament, Cordova went only five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Lancer provided too much offensive power for the Mavericks with 10 hits. Four players had two hits each; Appino, along with Spencer Gudgel, Guererro and Buck. Gudgel also had three RBIs, and Trevor Ready two. Appino also had two stolen bases.

Tipton went the distance on the mound for the Lancers. He gave up only one hit, struck out four and walked only three. He faced 20 batters.

Cordova 10, Union Mine 7

In an SVC home on April 5th, the Lancers had 11 hits. Appino and Ready had two hits each, along with Smith. Ready also had two RBIs.

Cordova resumes conference action with back-to-back road games at Union Mine next Monday and Tuesday. The Lancers and Diamondbacks were scheduled to play each other before Cordova had its spring break, but the game postponed due to rain and field conditions.

Next Wednesday, Cordova will host El Dorado. All games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
